چکیده

Frequency synthesizer is one of the important element for wireless communication application. The speed of VCO and prescaler determines how fast the frequency synthesizer is. A dual modulus prescaler contains logic gates and flip-flops. To fulfill the need of high frequency and low voltage circuit suitable flipflops must be selected. Four different classes of flip-flops like master-slave, pulse-triggered, differential and dual-edge triggered (DET) are analyzed. Higher clock load in pulse-triggered FF and switching on both side of clock cycle in DET made them unusable in practical design for prescaler circuits. Due to this reason dual-edge triggered and pulse-triggered flip-flops are not taken for the comparison. Divide-by-2/3 prescaler is implemented by TSPC, ETSPC master-slave and differential type of flip-flops. Different 32/33 prescalers are implemented by choosing various combinations of 2/3 prescaler and flip-flops. Prescalers using different FFs are compared in terms of operating frequency, power, delay and power-delay-product. The operations of prescalers are ensured in cadence virtuoso simulator under 180nm technology.

Design and Analysis of Power and Area Efficient 2/3 Prescaler Using E-TSPC Logic

One of the important functional blocks in frequency synthesizers is the high speed dual modulus prescaler. The bottleneck of the dual modulus prescaler design is that it operates at the highest frequencies and consumes more power than any other circuit blocks of the synthesizer. A dual modulus prescaler (also known as divide-by-N/N+1 counter) usually consists of a divide-by-2/3 prescaler unit f...

A 7.3 Ghz Low Power True Single Phase Clock Cmos 2/3 Prescaler 247 Μw

In this paper a high operating frequency and power efficient TSPC prescaler layout is proposed and compared with the existing TSPC and E-TSPC prescalers on the basis of operating frequency and power consumption. The maximum operating frequency of the proposed TSPC prescaler is 7.3 GHz which is 10% higher than other prescalers with average power consumption of 309 μW at 1.8 V supply voltage. Thi...

A current-shaping technique for static MOS current-mode logic prescalers

This letter presents a current-shaping technique for static MOS current-mode logic (MCML) prescalers. Simply with two extra current-shaping capacitors the self-oscillating frequecy is increased. A current vector model is also presented to illustrate the principles. The prescaler with the current-shaping technique was fabricated in a 0.18μm CMOS technology with a reference classic one. The measu...

Implementation of a Programmable High Speed Divider for a 2.4 Ghz Cmos Integer-n Frequency Synthesizer

The implementation of a programmable high speed divider for a CMOS Frequency Synthesizer, using 0.35 μm CMOS technology, is described. The Frequency Synthesizer is part of a RF transceiver to work in the 2.4 GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medicine) band. The programmable divider employs: a divide-by-32/33 dual-modulus prescaler composed by a divide-by-4/5 synchronous counter, using the Ext...
